The five units explore: (1) essential terms and grammar needed in talking about real estate, including how to give accurate descriptions of location; (2) types of real property ranging from studio apartments to lots and acreage and including commercial property, houses and business investments; (3) renting property and the legal aspects involved; (4) purchasing property and the legalities involved; (4) dealing with agents.
Each unit feautures articles with an informative content along with vocabulary and many practice exercises. Pair-work opportunities allow learners to practice using the language in meaningful contexts. The individual project sections ask learners to do some research and find out about the procedures and/or legalities in their countries or areas.
Both British and American legal aspects are presented, along with any difference in language usage: for instance, to let a flat (UK) vs to rent an apartment (USA).
In addition to the five units, there are complete sections devoted to: classified advertisements for all types of property as they might be found in publications; assessing all types of property (upon an inspection or viewing, for instance), and many sample forms ranging from a rental lease and inventory checklist to a purchase contract.
Two glossaries are found at the end of the book. The first offers clear definitions of all the terms used relating to property from tile floors to attics and beams. The second is a brief listing of the main legal terms used.
